So, I’ve been looking for a denim shirt to pair with denim pants since the summer. I recently found one while thrifting about two weeks ago. Although, this is not the exact look I wanted, here is my rendition of the denim on denim trend. I wanted a lighter and softer denim shirt. I would also pair it with a washed denim pant, but oh well. Maybe I’ll nab the exact look next time.

The key to this trend is to mix and match the denim as my daughter and I did in the first photo. You can see that she’s wearing a dark denim shirt with a colored/pastel denim bottom (top: united colors of bennetton-thrifted, Jeans:Levi’s, shoes: Uggs). I’m wearing the opposite (medium denim top:thrifted, dark denim bottom: Banana Republic, shoes Nine West).

The good thing about this look is that you can mix and match most denims. O Magazine’s editor of “How to Wear” (February 2012) recommends to stay away from acid wash. It is also suggested to try a white denim jean with a blue denim button down top.  And don’t forget the jean jacket! I love to pair my jean jacket with work trousers/pants and a simple shirt. It provides a sleek yet sophisticated look.  You can check out InStyle’s take on the trend here! Enjoy!
